Caroline le Grelle, a fashion consultant for Eurovet that organises Salon International de la Lingerie fair in Paris, has observed a global shift towards fuller figures as women’s bust are growing bigger.

Even researches done by international bra companies worldwide show that the cup sizes have jumped six to seven times in the last few years. Berlei has added a H size, Rival Eveden has added a K cup, and Triumph has gone up to G and J.

In Mumbai too, lingerie companies are stocking up large sizes. Says Saurabh Dadu, CEO, strapsandstrings.com, online lingerie boutique, "Through an online survey, we asked 4,000 women across the country about their cup sizes. As many as 35 per cent of them clicked on 34 DD, 34 G and 36 F. We got limited designs in these sizes, but are now getting more as these are completely sold out."

Sanjay Dawar, MD, Bodycare says, “We didn’t go beyond size D till some three years back. But now we have DD and even E.” Lingerie designer Suman Nathwani also confirms a similar trend. “Earlier we did not have cups bigger than C. We have now got DD, E and F
cups that previously used to come on order only.”

Experts say that the increase in bust size can be attributed to a number of causes — dietician Shikha Sharma points out, “There is growth of toxins and chemicals in food that we consume. This affects biological hormones that may be cause an increase in bust size.”

Fit matters
Wear fitted clothes. Don’t hide your bust in loose clothes and layers, as it will only make you look bigger.

Do décolletage
Do you remember Lola Cirillo (Salma Hayek) sizzling in halters and V necks in After The Sunset? “Halters are always a top-heavy woman’s best friend,” says designer Rina Dhaka. You won't go wrong with cowls and scoops too.

Ban empire lines
Avoid outfits that make your bust line very prominent. "Empire lines raise up your bust, putting the focus on them,” says Dhaka.

Flaunt feminity
Opt for waist-clinching outfits. “They tend to make your bust look less heavy,” says Dhaka. Another trick to underplay your busts is
to draw attention towards your shoulders, arms and back with interesting cuts.

Colour play
Opt for dark coloured tops and bottoms in lighter hues. Avoid shiny and bright tops.

Corset with sleeves
A corset with sleeves also looks great on a heavy-busted woman.
