With the ouster of creative director John Galliano, 50, from the house of Christian Dior over anti-Semitic remarks, speculation has been rife about his replacement.
But, all thanks to a tweet, everyone seems certain that Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci, 35, is set to take over.
Style.com editor Derek Blasberg tweeted last week from Paris, saying, "I was just told backstage at the @KatyPerry concert (of all places!) that Riccardo Tisci is CONFIRMED at Dior."
Within seconds of this tweet going live, everyone from fashion blogs to industry bigwigs was busy toasting Tisci. "If he’s taking up the job then Dior is in for quite the revamp. Galliano’s a theatrical star but Tisci is a melancholic romantic," says fashion blogger Ambika Muttoo. "Tisci will have a tough time taking over, he’s got big shoes to fill," says fashion critic Umesh Jivnani.
Another strong contender is Lanvin’s creative director Alber Elbaz. However, Dior has yet to confirm the news. "Unless there is an official announcement about whom Dior will have as their creative designer (sic), names of a potential designer are only rumours," says Kalyani Saha, VP of Dior in India.
