Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week kickstarts

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week S/S'12 kickstarted in the capital on Saturday afternoon. Pulsating and lively collection by various designers opened the five-days long fashion event on a good note. Aditi Caroli writes.

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week S/S'12 kickstarted in the capital on Saturday afternoon. Pulsating and lively collection by various designers opened the five-days long fashion event on a strong note. Interesting use of prints, appliqués and sequins was the highlight of Day One. While some restricted to muted tonnes, others splashed colours from all directions.

Gauri & Nainika
The designer duo featured dresses with basic bodies— from shorter lengths to longer ones. The garments were well tailored. Metallic buttons were the highlight of the collection.
Garments: jump suits, dresses
Colour palette: grey, black, mauve, lavender, pink, mustard, blue
Accessories: glares, uniform caps, self-coloured belts with gold eyelets
Hair-do: neatly tied back
Make-up: red lipstick

Malini Ramani
The designer presented a vibrant collection. The silhouettes varried from basic opaque to flowing forms. Tie and dye effect was cleverly used. Multicolour scalloped thread embroidery and mirror-work was the high point of the collection.

Colour palette: blue, white, green, black, multi-colour
Accessories: head gears, neck-pieces
Hair-do: neatly tied back
Make-up: red lipstick

Nandita Basu
She showcased eight different garments, each telling a story of its own. The indo-western prêt collection saw use of kantha embroidery.
Garments: Skirts, dresses, shorts, jumpsuits
Colour palette: red, beige, mustard, orange, white
Accessories: arm rings, big nose rings
Hair-do: neatly tied back
Make-up: red lipstick

Rimzim Dadu
My Village collection witnessed a combination of 3-D structural forms, cut work, appliqué work and sequins with fabric, paper and acrylic.
Garments: jackets, over-coats, skirts, dresses
Colour palette: blue, white, coral, green
Hair-do: neatly tied back
Make-up: orange-pink lipstick

Rahul Reddy
The whites formed a major part of the collection. There was a play of different types of pleating and pin-tucks. Silhouettes were structured and basic, giving an impression of school uniforms.

Colour palette: white, brown, grey
Accessories: colourful belts
Hair-do: neatly tied back
Make-up: orange lipstick

Nachiket Barve
Appliqués and sequins were the highlight of The Lightness Of Being collection. Flowy garments with pleating and draping were showcased.
Garments: dresses, blouses, skirts, jackets, shorts, trousers, saris, kurtas, shorts,
Colour palette: blue, green, mauve, red, pink, orange
Accessories: clutch, neck-pieces
Hair-do: ties loosely in a side bun
Make-up: pink lipstick, eyes highlighted using mascara and liner

Aneeth Arora
Péro collection was all about floral prints and multi-coloured checks. It was quite refreshing and vivacious.
Garments: kurtas, trousers, jackets, shirts, skirts, jumpsuits, dresses, shorts, gangi, waistcoats
Colour palette: white, yellow, turquoise, red, fuschia, green, aubergine
Accessories: glares, turbans, baskets, bags, hats
Hair-do: turban around head
Make-up: pink lipstick, linered eyes

Rina Dhaka
Dhaka’s collection married classics with contemporary. Lots of pleats, ruffles, layers and flares were seen on the garments. Kalki Koechlin and Prateik Babbar walked the ramp for her.
Garments: dresses, jackets, jodhpurs, trousers, jumpsuits, blouses, skirts, swimsuit
Colour palette: green, pink, ivory, grey
Accessories: glares, turbans, baskets, bags, hats
Hair-do: tied back from top and rest left loose
Make-up: natural lip colour

Rajesh Pratap Singh
This show, unlike others, was held in an open area giving a road trip feel to it. The collection was an amalgam of contemporary and traditional. Dragon flies and butterflies on garments stood out.
Garments: dresses, saris, dhotis, blouses
Colour palette: pink, orange, grey, metal
Accessories: belts, butterfly brooches, neckpeices
Hair-do: neatly tied back with a side parting
Make-up: light-pink lipstick
