To be stylish, you don’t need a plethora of options- you just need to have the confidence to choose the correct ones. Women are considered to have more choices when it comes to fashion and style, but what about men who conventionally have to stick to the regular denims for day and tux for the night?
“It has become better for men, style-wise, as they are now opening themselves to experiment with colours, cuts and patterns” says designer Pawan Sachdeva. Men could flaunt their individual style by incorporating changes, as simple as re-considering wearing their trainers or a loafers with a suit, a la Robert Downey Jr, or as complex as carrying satchels without looking too feminine, like our very own Bollywood hottie, Ranbir Kapoor. “Wearing graphic tees sublimely announces that you are a man with a message.
Wear it with a conservative business suite for some intelligent styling,” says Dimpy Kapur, a fashion blogger and stylist. She adds: “The beautiful tan skin of Indian men can rock neon — but if you are just starting to get experimental, wear neon over a black tee till you graduate to a level that you are comfortable with.”
Bold hues of neon have been in trend for a while, but summer has taken this trend a few notches higher. For those of you feeling sceptical about wearing it, neon is best sported in casual settings. Start by pairing a neon T-shirt with safe bets like a pair of dark blue denims during daytime. Finish the look with minimalist tan loafers. Stand out amid the crowd at a formal dinner party by throwing in a grey blazer over a neon shirt, to tone down the pop effect. If you want to go classy yet fun, neon with white is a classic combination.
Printing It Up
Prints have never been off the trend chart. And if the ladies can embrace it, the men can do it too.Pair your printed shirt with neutral basics, maybe dark coloured chinos and shoes. The prints can be from aztec to all-over paisley. When going for printed lowers, choose striped dhotis or harem style printed picks. Skip skinny, printed pants.
If your brush with wearing open toed footwear started and ended with flip flops, crocs or the occasional Kolhapuris, it is time to upgrade your kicks. Get yourself a pair of masculine sandals aka mandles and walk with ease in the scorching summer heat or the slushy monsoon. You can also flaunt your sleek mandles to formal dos. Be it the sleek leather peep toe sandals or the suede ones with a hint of pop colour in a chic chappal style, wear them right to ace the look. Pair your crisp black tuxedo or stark white shirt with a pair of black one toe strapped leather mandles. Instead of pairing the ethnic bandhgala jackets with traditional juttis, you can opt for bug shaped, strappy buckled, or gladiator mandals in pop colours.'
If you thought tasteful style was all about minimalism, it’s time to think again! A perfect option to revive your everyday wardrobe and bring life into it are through graphic T-shirts. However, there are a few tips to keep in mind before you flaunt them. To avoid looking like a grown up geek, style them smart. Don’t couple your graphic tees with coloured bottoms or shorts, that will give an unimpressive, almost childish look. Pair these statement tees with a leather jacket to add an edge to the outfit. While we are all for the Joker-Batman graphics, we are a tad bit tired of Superman! Look for more inspiration to bring on some swag.
The men who dared to take the risk
It takes an utterly fashion-savvy man to take a style risk, and that too, with full confidence. We love designer Marc Jacob’s dotted jacket look and actor Robert Downey Jr’s collar brooch that lends more edge than a single pocket square. Designer Jean Paul Gaultier bought Indian style to the ramp with the turban. Pair your dark hued turban with a graphic tee and chinos of your choice to make an impact.
