Get the right swimsuit

The promise of an inviting swim is one of the few reasons to head outdoors in the Indian summer. But if the pool is at the local club or someplace public, you will want to pick the right swimsuit. The few extra kilos the festive season might have added only makes things harder. “It can get a bit tricky,” says celebrity stylist Pernia Qureshi, sharing some guidelines. “If you’re petite, you should experiment with bikinis in bright colours, polka dots and prints.” And what if you’re not? “Those with an athletic body structure should go for colour-blocking and vertical axis stripes. For pear-shaped bodies, buy swimsuits that are strategically cut to highlight strong features,” says Pernia. Usually, the ones that worry most are those who are top-heavy. For them, Pernia suggests, “Try mixing and matching separates that are structured. Go for block colours like white and black instead of stripes and bold prints.” Here are some picks we’ve put together along with a range of cover-ups.
