Even as the whole world eagerly awaits for the new Miss Universe to be crowned, (May 28 is the D-day), people have already let their choice be known by enthusiatically taking part in the Your Choice, Your Miss Universe 2007 survey.
Miss India Puja Gupta emerged as the people's choice for the crown. Of the 3,949 people who polled, 1,422 cast their votes in favour of Puja as the new Miss Universe. Miss Philippines was a distant first runners-up with 697 votes, and Miss Barbados claimed the third position with 522 votes.
The survey conducted by HindustanTimes.com lasted a little over a week during which people from all parts of the world, including USA, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, Austraila, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Spain, Botswana, Netherlands, South Africa, Brazil, Venezuela, Curacao, Nicaragua, among many others, voted for their choice.
Miss Venezuela and Miss Indonesia ended fourth and fifth with 146 and 119 votes, respectively.
Contestants from Belize, Estonia, Guatemala, Motenegro, Nigeria, Paraguay, Serbia and Singapore ended at the bottom of the heap polling just 1 vote each.
Puerto Rico (88), Slovenia (86) and Thailand (86) also emerged as strong contenders.
Surprisingly, the US managed just 9 votes. In the past, the US has manged to win the Miss Universe title seven times, the maximum for any country.
