Bollywood divas are parading off-screen in peplum ensembles, and how!
At recent events, while Deepika Padukone and Kangana looked ravishing in peplum tops, Bipasha Basu and Malaika Arora Khan sizzled in peplum dresses. This trend is hot with Hollywood celebrities too. Actor Angelina Jolie slipped into a white strapless peplum dress at her recent public appearance. Kelly Brook and Kendall Jenner too were spotted flaunting this trend.
Peplum, a Greek word for tunic, is a ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress.
So, why is the peplum suddenly the choice of divas? “This style camouflages the waist and gives an illusion that you are wearing a top and bottom,” points out designer Ranna Gill. Agrees, designer Priyanka Modi who says that peplum suits all body types. “It’s a great way to hide those love handles and bulging tummies as it accentuates the waist. This trend is here to stay,” she says.
So for anyone looking to cheat on the diet and yet look super-fit, peplum is a saviour of sorts. Designer Anand Kabra adds that this trend has been around for five seasons now because it suits the heavy Indian bodytype. “It balances the bottom-heavy Indian body structure, It also has a very beautiful silhouette,” says Kabra.
