FIFA U-17 World Cup: Colombia football team first to arrive in India
Colombia became the first team to arrive in India for the FIFA U-17 World Cup starting on October 6. The first match of the tournament will feature Colombia taking on Ghana in New Delhi.
The Colombian team will be the first to arrive in the country for next month’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup when the players from the South American country touch down at New Delhi on Thursday. The Colombian team of 21 players and the support staff will touch down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport after 1 am IST.
Colombia are placed in Group A along with hosts India, Ghana and United States of America. They will play their first group match against Ghana in the tournament opener on October 6 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The New Zealand team will be the next to arrive on September 22. They will land in Mumbai, which will be their base for the group matches. New Zealand are placed in Group B along with Paraguay, Mali and Turkey.
The remaining 21 teams will arrive later, starting from next week. Honduras, New Caledonia, Iraq and Mexico will be the last teams to arrive -- on October 4 -- as their first matches begin on October 8.
