“He was a wise man who invented beer”- Plato, Greek philosopher.

Ask any beer drinker and they would tell you that there is nothing better than sipping a cold beer at the end of a long, tiring day. Apart from bringing friends together, beer also has a variety of health benefits such as increasing bone density and reducing the risk of kidney stones.

However, apart from drinking, beer can be used for various other purposes. Here are a few:

1. Have a bath

Empty a bottle of your favourite beer into the tub and step in to enjoy a nice bubble bath. “Beer baths are good for the skin because beer is rich in multivitamins, especially B complex,” says Dr. Jaya Pathak, MBBS, MD (Dermatology), Aayna Clinic, Delhi.

2. As a fire extinguisher

Now this certainly does not mean that you keep a few crates of Budweiser in the house and throw away the fire extinguisher.

However, if you shake the beer bottle/can and spray it over the fire it can help put out small flare ups. Otherwise learn how to use a fire extinguisher!

3. Marinate meat

Beer is mildly acidic, due to which it’s good for cooking tender meat. How do we do this?

1. Make a few holes in the meat, place it inside a Tupperware box and add beer.

2. Keep it in the fridge overnight.

3. And yes, don’t drink the soak.

4. Shampoo your hair

Yes, we know you’ve heard of this one. So here’s how to use beer as a shampoo:

Mix room temperature (1/4 of a cup) beer with the same amount of water and add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. After using your shampoo, wet your hair with the beer mixture. Wait for a few minutes and then wash it off.

“The hops and malt in beer add to the nutritional value for hair growth and also give a shine to the hair,” says Dr. Pathak.

5. Ease tired feet

Empty a few cold beers into a bucket and put your feet in. Beer contains certain antioxidants and nutrients that are beneficial for the skin, and leave you with happy feet! Of course, having another beer in your hand would help too!

6. Catch mice

Though you never saw Mickey Mouse down a few pints, mice definitely like beer. Here’s how you can trap mice by using beer:

1. Pour beer into a bucket.

2. Place a rod which acts as a ramp so that the mice can get to the beer.

3. Once they have jumped into the bucket to enjoy the beer fest, they won’t be able get out of the bucket.

Since you are trapping the poor mice, might as well throw in a few cookies too, a study published in January 2017 in Nature Communications said that alcohol consumption makes mice hungry.

7. Beer massage

Can’t afford a massage chair? Worry not, beer is here. Roll a beer can under your foot or put it against your calf muscles and roll- this acts as a self massage tool which increases blood flow in the area.

8. Solve a bad hair day

If you notice your hair sticking out in different directions just before going out for a party, wet your hand with a few drops of beer. Just wet your index finger and smoothen it down. Try it out!
