Esteban Cambiasso believes that Argentina will continue to produce players even after Lionel Messi hangs his boots.
The former Argentina midfielder, who was has represented his country on 52 occasions, said: “Not qualifying for the tournament does not change much. You can never count out Argentina. Everyone plays football in the country.
“Players are bound to come through the ranks. Twenty years ago, we wondered who after (Diego) Maradona. Now after Messi, I am sure there will be someone unbelievable as well.”
Cambiasso was speaking to the sidelines of the FIFA U-17 World Cup draw held on Friday.
Barcelona star Messi had quit the national scene before changing his mind.
He added that not qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup doesn’t mean that football is on decline in Argentina.
They are also struggling to get a direct spot for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but Cambiasso feels Argentina will seal their berth when the qualification process gets over.
