Lionel Messi’s last-gasp winner for Barcelona in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the El Clasico clash, which left the La Liga title race wide open, overshadowed the fact that it was the Argenitine maestro’s 500th for the club.
The goal helped Barcelona move to the top of the standings, level with Real on 75 points, albeit having played a game more.
In order to celebrate Messi’s landmark of 500 goals for the club, Barcelona released a touching tribute video, recalling the first occasion he scored a senior team goal for the club, twelve years back.
The goal came 12 years back in 2005 against Albacete. The video touched upon how the-then Argentine starlet didn’t seem bothered by being adjudged offside after scoring what would have been his first goal.
Instead, the youngster went on to score a very similar goal, lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper, to open his goal-scoring account.
The club released another video on Monday, a compilation of tributes from current and former teammates of Messi.
It features, among others, Brazil legend Ronaldinho, Argentina forward Sergio Aguero and Barcelona skipper Andres Iniesta.
Messi will now hope to continue his form into the season run-in, as Barcelona aim to complete a league-and-cup double.
