Oorja football tournament: Manipur to face Haryana in girls’ final

Manipur will take on Haryana in Oorja football tournament final in the girls’ category. Punjab will take on Karnataka in the boys’ final a day later.

The three-month long Oorja football tournament, organised by All India Police Sports Control Board to unearth talent, is coming to an end this week. On Tuesday, the final in the girls’ category will be played between Manipur and Haryana at the Ambedkar Stadium here.

The Manipur team, which has scored 27 goals during the tournament and demolished its rivals with huge margins, will begin as the favourite. The match will start at 6.40 pm.

In another game on Tuesday, the bronze medal play-off match in girls’ category will be played between Maharashtra and West Bengal and will begin at 8 am.

In yet another game, Red FM XI will take on Oorja XI. The former comprises boys while the latter is made up of girls.

The latter half of the day will see a glitzy football match between an Oorja XI and a team comprising of current and ex-Indian footballers, as well as union minister Kiren Rijiju.

The boys’ final between Punjab and Karnataka will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday, with union minster Arun Jaitley set to attend the event.
