Legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima has congratulated his son Ronald for being selected in the Brazil’s U-18 team that will compete in this year’s Maccabiah Games.
The Maccabiah Games will see more than 10,000 athletes from 85 countries taking part in more than 40 different sporting events and are often referred to as the Jewish Olympics.
Ronald was born in 1999, when his father was plying his trade for Serie A side Inter Milan.
Although Ronald is not Jewish, he has been a member of Sao Paolo’s Hebraica group after he and his mother were invited to be the part of the group.
The former Real Madrid striker took to Instagram to congratulate his son and wish the Brazil U-18 team luck for the tournament.
“This is the Brazilian team representing the people in the World Macabbiah 2017. A special hug for my son Ronald Lima who is in the Under-18 soccer team. Good luck, guys! Go for it, Brazil!”, he wrote in Portuguese.
Football runs in Ronald’s family. Aside from his father, his mother Milene Dominguez is also a full Brazil international with 20 caps to her name. She has a world record for keeping the ball off the ground with 55,187 touches.
