Adorned with golden snowflake designs, the Disney Pixar film's logo, and the lead characters Elsa and Anna, a special edition PlayStation 4 console is an official tie-in for the games and entertainment machine.

Launching July 16, the same day as Frozen's DVD and Blu-ray retail release in Japan, the branded PlayStation 4 is priced at ¥42,980 ($425), the same as a regular base unit.

The animated movie ruled the Japanese box office ever since its March 14 release, staying in top spot all the way up until domestic newcomer "Maleficent" took the crown on July 6.

Palme d'Or winner Sayaka Kanda provided the vocal dub for Anna, with Elsa's role going to Japan Academy Prize winner Takako Matsu.

A Japanese theatrical take of $242 million puts it on course to overtake the $258m of "Titanic" and become Japan's second-biggest grosser of all time, notes Variety, placing it behind only Hayao Miyazaki's animated film "Spirited Away"; 1.15m DVD/Blu-ray pre-orders by July 6 will make it the territory's fastest-selling Disney title in history come release.

In worldwide terms, "Frozen" is cinema's 5th biggest earner on $1.2bn, a nose ahead of fellow 2013 release "Iron Man III," according to cumulative data provided by Box Office Mojo, and is the only film in the Top 50 Worldwide Grosses that's still in theaters.

James Cameron's "Avatar" ($2.7bn) and "Titanic" (2.1bn) are in first and second place respectively, with Joss Whedon pic "Marvel's The Avengers" ($1.5bn) and the last "Harry Potter" film ($1.3bn) rounding out the top five.
