Ultra-fast booting, powerful processors, fast Solid State Drives and unrivalled portability -- these are just a few of the features, claims LG, that make its new Ultrabooks "super."
The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer is getting ready to debut two brand new series of Ultrabooks, the Super Ultrabook Z330 and the Z43, at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the second week of January.
The Z330 and Z43 fit into a new category of laptops that are light, thin, powerful, portable and (will eventually) cost less than $1000.
The Z330 is a compact beast that sports LG’s Super Speed Boot technology for start-up times that are approximately three times faster than other 13" notebooks on the market. Inside its sleek, clutch-design, exterior is a second-generation Intel Core i7 processor that can boot up in less than 10 seconds and recover from stand-by mode in just two seconds.
The laptop has an overall profile of 14.7mm and weighs a light 1.21 kg. Its bigger brother, the 14" Z430 is slightly thicker and heavier at 19.9 mm and 1.50 kg but still manages to earn the title of "most compact 14-inch notebook available in the market" -- at least for now.
Like the Z330, the Z430 is powered by Intel’s Core i7 processor. The Z430, however, offers up to 500GB of storage on a HDD (hard disk drive) and an optional 16GB or 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive) while the Z330 offers a 120GB or 256GB SSD.
Ultrabooks are expected to dominate this year’s tech offerings from high-profile electronics companies at CES. Major manufacturers including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Toshiba will be on hand to reveal their take on the blossoming Ultrabook category.
While Ultrabooks will be blazoned left, right and center, exhibitors haven’t forgotten that the 2012 show will be about tablets, glasses-free 3D and cool prototypes too.
"At this year’s CES, LG will showcase products that are not only new, but also establish categories defining new standards for personal computing devices," said J.J. Lee, executive vice president and head of LG Electronics IT Business Unit. "Our new products feature a range of breakthrough technologies from LG, such as IPS display, glasses-free 3D and Super Speed Boot, that will noticeably elevate the personal computing experience. These technologies reflect our goal of satisfying various consumer demands, as well as our aggressive strategy for 2012."
Also on show at CES will be LG’s P535 and A540 3D notebooks, and the company’s 23-inch all-in-one V300 PC with an immersive 3D display and In-Plane Switching (IPS) -enabled wide viewing angle.
LG’s Super Ultrabook Z330 and Z430 and the P535 and A540 3D notebooks are expected to launch globally in the first quarter of 2012. CES will take place January 10-13 in Las Vegas, USA.
