More than 40% of online video in US now viewed on Google sites

Digital monitoring site comscore's July report of US online video rankings, released August 22, found that Google sites accounted for over 40 percent of all online viewing sessions in the US.

Digital monitoring site comscore's July report of US online video rankings, released August 22, found that Google sites accounted for over 40 percent of all online viewing sessions in the US.

In total throughout July, in the US, the total number of online video viewing sessions was 6,886,195,000. Of this total, Google sites crossed the three billion mark, accounting for 3,009,051,000 or 43.69 percent of online video viewing sessions more than any of the other select video sites monitored by comScore.

In addition to being responsible for the largest percentage of all online viewing sessions among online video sites, Google sites also attracted the largest number of unique viewers throughout July. The majority of total viewing sessions and unique users were accounted for by Google's YouTube.

The second largest video site in terms of total online viewing sessions was Vevo with over 16 percent, followed by Microsoft sites with over 10 percent.

Google's market dominance can also be seen in the United Kingdom, where YouTube accounted for the majority of visits to entertainment websites, according to data from internet analysts Experian Hitwise.

According to the July 2011 US online video rankings released August 22 by comScore, the top online video sites in terms of viewing sessions were:
