Nokia unveils NFC-capable Bluetooth Headset

gadgets Updated: Oct 17, 2011 17:48 IST

The latest Bluetooth headset to come from Nokia is a small, light and colorful gadget called the Nokia Luna.

The Luna is a two-piece, monochromatic headset that looks like it could have been included in a minimalistic pop-art exhibition.

The headset’s striking design is nice, but what really makes the Luna stand out is that it comes with NFC (near field communication).

If your phone is NFC-enabled you just have to tap it on the Luna to pair the two devices. If your phone doesn't have NFC you can follow Luna’s voice prompts to make the two Bluetooth-enabled devices talk to each other.

"Taking the earpiece out of the base automatically fires up the Bluetooth connection to your phone and answers incoming calls. Putting it back hangs up the call and powers down the Bluetooth connection, explains Nokia in an October 13 press release.

The Luna’s tiny earpiece weighs in at just 5g and offers 8 hours of talk time (or up to 60 days standby).

The Luna comes with adaptive volume adjustment and also enables you to pair up to two phones (Nokia-made or otherwise) at the same time.

Bluetooth headset maker Jawbone is often noted for its stylish Bluetooth headsets, however, as yet none of them include NFC technology.

The Nokia Luna Bluetooth headset will arrive in Q4 2011 for around €69.

Even Motorola has announced NFC-enabled Bluetooth headsets – the Elite Silver and the Elite Flip.

These headsets with their incorporated NFC tech allow users to pair them easily with the phones in a quick tap (the phone should also have the NFC chip). The inclusion of HD Audio Plus increases sound clarity and the CrystalTalk dual-microphone cancels all that unwanted background noises.
