Ten hottest gadgets of 2011

Smartphones and tablets were some of the hottest consumer electronics products in 2011 according to a ranking released as part of Google's annual Zeitgeist summary. Amazon's first multimedia tablet, the Kindle Fire, Apple's iPhone 4S and T-Mobile's Sidekick 4G smartphones were the clear winners on Google search.

HP Touchpad

HP's TouchPad was the first tablet to be powered by Palm's webOS platform. It connects with HP's webOS smartphones and enables consumers to answer calls or tap out SMS messages on their tablet thanks to the company's exclusive "touch-to-share" feature. The TouchPad weighs around 740 grams and has a 9.7" capacitive multitouch display, a 1.3MP camera, support for Flash Player 10.1 beta, true multitasking, and a 1.2 GHz processor.



iPhone 4S

iPhone 4sThe iPhone 4S is Apple's latest smartphone. It has an 8MP camera, 1080p HD video recording, a dual-core A5 chip for faster performance, an improved antenna design and Siri, an intelligent assistant that understands voice commands. The smartphone sold 4 mn units in its first three days.

Sidekick 4G
T-Mobile re-vamped its line of Sidekick smartphones with the Sidekick 4G. The entry-level Android smartphone sports the line's iconic slide-out Qwerty Keyboard, and is capable of delivering up to 21 Mbps download speeds. It also packs in a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and a 1 GHz processor.

Sony NGP
The codename for Sony's soon to be released PlayStation Vita, the Sony NGP (short for Next Generation Playstation) was widely searched in 2011. The handheld PS Vita console brings features from both Sony's PSP and PlayStation3 entertainment systems to offer users rich gaming experiences and enhanced social connectivity.

iPad 2
The iPad 2, is 33% thinner and 15% lighter than its predecessor. It features front- and back-facing cameras, a faster dual-core A5 processor and a 10-hour battery life. Apple also introduced the Smart Cover, colorful polyurethane or leather covers that ‘snap on’ to your iPad 2 with magnets.

iPad 3
Rumours about a next-gen iPad are hot on the web. The device is tipped to have a higher resolution display, which is close to double the existing iPad 2 display resolution. Other reports suggest the tablet might be slightly thicker than its predecessor and will support 4G connectivity.

HTC Sensation
The HTC Sensation 4G is an Android smartphone powerhouse with HTC's Watch video service. It has a 4.3" widescreen display, 1080p HD video recording, an 8MP camera and a 1.2GHz dual core processor.

Amazon Kindle Fire
Amazon's first multimedia tablet and the company's best-selling product. The tablet features a 7" full color LCD touch screen, a cloud-accelerated web browser, free cloud storage, Amazon Whispersync, a dual-core processor and WiFi (but not 3G).

Samsung Nexus Prime
The rumoured name (Samsung Nexus Prime) of Samsung and Google's Galaxy Nexus smartphone started trending as word of the coveted device started to spread. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is an Android superphone. It comes with NFC, a huge 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display and is the world's first smartphone to feature Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
