Evil is back and it's your job to get rid of it -- or at least survive it. So says the hellbeast-ridden thirty-second TV spot for Diablo III, coming out on Mac and PC on May 15.
The game is hotly anticipated, given its 11-year gestation period, the legacy of its forebears, and a public beta testing period that has left players enthusiastic for more.
Diablo II, released in 2001, helped popularize the action role-playing genre, which has since spawned varied offspring.
Notable among them are Torchlight, a dungeon-crawling lootfest that wears its Diabolic origins on its sleeve, and Borderlands, a comedic first-person shooter with role-playing game elements, both of which have sequels due out later in the year.
