Unusual 2012 video game "Journey" turned all seven nominations into category wins at the March 27 Game Developers Choice Awards -- so take the hint and find a way to play it if you haven't already done so.
"Journey" goes against the grain of stereotypical gaming tropes, encouraging players to co-operate and communicate in pursuit of one simple goal -- the ascent of a far-off mountain -- with many characterizing their time with the game as one of profound emotional experience.
Having already won a number of year-end accolades from video game magazines and websites, "Journey" was also recognized at this year's DICE Awards, BAFTA Video Game Awards, and Annie Awards.
Voted for by game developers themselves at the GDCAs, "Journey" was recipient of winner's plaques in Game of the Year, Innovation, Audio, Game Design, and Visual Arts.
Polished and ingenious mobile game "The Room" won Best Handheld/Mobile Game, having already been crowned Apple's App Store Game of the Year in 2012, and just this week made its debut on Android.
Also hailed were random space exploration game "FTL: Faster Than Light" for Best Debut (also a winner at the night's preceding Independent Game Festival Awards), "The Walking Dead" from Telltale Games for Best Narrative, and the effervescent island chaos of "Far Cry 3" for Best Technology.
Distinctive action game "Dishonored" emerged from a public vote as the Audience Award Winner.
