After a delay of nearly a year, the state health department has finally sanctioned 12 posts for the new civil hospital at Sector 10.

The hospital is not yet fully functional due to shortage of doctors and other staff. According to the department, 10 medical officers and two senior medical officers will be recruited within the next 2-3 months. These posts were sanctioned on March 19.

“In addition, approximately 20-25 posts for nurses have been sanctioned,” said Dr Gulshan Arora, medical superintendent, Civil Hospital, Sector 10.

At present, only the outpatient department (OPD) of the hospital is functional. Three persons have been deputed for the facility — two doctors and one senior medical officer.

“Only the OPD is functional at present. It will take another two-three months for the hospital to be fully-functional,” said Dr Assaruddin, principal medical officer.

The construction of the Rs 17.5 crore hospital began in 2003 and it was to be completed by 2005. However, the construction was completed by early 2011.

Two years after completion, the hospital was finally inaugurated on August 15 last year and the OPD service began the very next day. The 100-bed hospital, spread over 10 acres of land, is the extension of Gurgaon’s main Civil Hospital located near the bus stand in Old Gurgaon.
