As many as 33 parking sites are likely to be thrown open to motorists by next week as the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has finally allotted work to contractors.
Two sites in front of Bikanerwala food outlet and Lemon Tree restaurant at Leisure Valley in Sector 29 are already being used by shoppers free-of-cost.
Out of the total 46 sites, 13 didn't find any takers. Hence, fresh tenders will be floated to attract bidders. For the remaining 33, the Huda received as many as 88 applications.
"The Huda had planned to allot all 46 parking sites but bids for 13 are still pending. Doubts over profitability among contractors maybe a reason," said a senior Huda official.
The civic body will take a week's time to seek an affidavit from the contractors so that they provide facilities dictated by the tender.
"We have sought a police verification report for all the prospective employees. In case of any mishap, the agreement will be terminated immediately," said the Huda official.
Vehicle owners can also register complaints through SMS on a helpline number displayed at the parking site, the official added. As part of the agreement, all contractors have to ensure proper uniforms for parking attendants, hand-held ticket machines, separate entry and exit points and fluorescent signboards declaring the site as a Huda parking spot.
The contractor will be required to report to the Huda if any vehicle is found parked for more than 24 hours to maintain a record of suspicious vehicles. Every employee at the parking lot will have a whistle, torch and fluorescent hand-held reflectors for safety, officials said.
