The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the bail plea of Sumit Bhuttan, who is accused of murdering his 28-year-old wife Ruchi for dowry and having an extra marital affair with model Meera Chopra.

Bhuttan’s bail plea has been rejected for the seventh time. The apex court also directed that the trial be completed in four months.

“The SC has asked the trial court in Gurgaon to expedite the case hearings. All our six witnesses have been examined. We are waiting for other witnesses to be examined,” said Rishi Malhotra, counsel for deceased Ruchi’s family.

Earlier, Bhuttan’s bail pleas were rejected thrice by a lower court, twice by the Punjab and Haryana High Court and once by the Supreme Court.

Ruchi was found hanging at her DLF City residence in 2011.

Bhuttan faces charges under Sections 304 (b) (dowry death), 302 (murder), 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and is lodged at Bhondsi Jail since July 6, 2011.

He used to run a franchise of Angel Brokerage Private Ltd in Bhikaji Cama Place, Delhi. Ruchi was employed with the same firm.
