The 21st All India Police Golf Tournament teed off on Wednesday in the city. It was formally inaugurated on Thursday morning with Haryana chief secretary DS Dhesi and over 100 senior police officers from across the country are participating in the tournament.

The tournament is being held in the city of the first time at ITC Golf Club, Tawdu Road, Manesar.

Teams from Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo Tibetan Border Police and other paramilitary forces are also participating in the three-day event that will conclude on Friday.

Of the 150 members who participated in the trial on Wednesday, 125 were selected for the next round.

Former Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev was the guest of honour of the event. His presence encouraged players as they geared up for their match. The participants can either play individually or as a team in this tournament.

“The golf tournament is a prestigious event and it is a privilege for the Gurgaon police to organise it this year. It not only allows the officers to de-stress but also helps them connect with each other better and share ideas and knowledge about policing and the challenges they face in their respective states. Golf helps in developing a bond among the officials, which is very necessary,” said Sandeep Khirwar, Gurgaon police commissioner.

Gurgaon police officer Kulvinder Singh, who is a 2006 batch IPS officer, had won the 20th All India Police Golf championship which was held in Noida last year. Singh is presently posted as commandant of 4th Indian Reserve Battalion, and he recently won a medal in a golf championship in the World Police Games held in USA. Last year, the golf championship was held in Noida, Uttar Pradesh and BSF official BS Kaurav had finished second after Singh in that tournament.

Kulvinder Singh along with his partner Pushpinder Singh, who is from BSF, has also won a gold medal in the team even World Police Games.
