Yet another incident of pipeline burst was reported on Monday and the blame, this time too, was laid on the ongoing construction of an underpass at Rajiv Chowk.

With the construction of several underpasses and a flyover under way on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, pipeline bursts have become a regular occurrence this year and several such cases have already been reported.

On Monday, a pipeline located on a vacant plot between the district court and the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway burst after developing leakages.

However, water did not seep onto the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and affect traffic movement, as officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) rushed to the scene and were able to fix the damage within an hour.

However, officials of Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) confirmed that water supply to sectors 32, 39, 46 and 47 will remain unaffected.

Ashok Kumar Sharma, project director of NHAI, could not be reached for comments in the matter.

In April, the Huda’s master water pipeline had burst twice during construction of the underpass at Rajiv Chowk. The breach had affected water supply in several sectors.

In March, Huda had issued a warning to the contractor hired by NHAI that any further damage to their master pipeline at Iffco Chowk will lead to a police complaint. This after the pipeline burst twice near Sector 17 and led to waterlogging on the service lane of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

On April 24, a section of road had caved in at the Hero Honda Chowk after the pipeline located below the junction developed leakages during its shifting to pave way for the construction of an underpass there. This resulted in commuters heading from New Delhi to Manesar taking more than 30 minutes to cross the junction.

On April 6, a construction company was accused of damaging a water pipeline of Unitech near Signature Tower affecting supply to South City-1. Areas such as South City, Ardee City, DLF, Sushant Lok and sectors 30, 31, 40, 45 and others faced water crisis for nearly 48 hours.

The NHAI is constructing three underpasses at Rajiv Chowk, Signature Tower and Hero Honda Chowk and a flyover at Iffco Chowk as part of a project to widen the expressway. Another flyover at Hero Honda Chowk was inaugurated on July 24.
