In the wake of demonstrations by agitating parents of the students of Suncity World School on Wednesday — where an eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two maids — the management suspended the school principal on Wednesday.
The management has also set up a probe panel to investigate the incident.
The school principal, Rupa Chakarvarty, who flew to Australia to attend a seminar on May 18, even though a few parents had reported the matter on May 14, has been directed to return “at the earliest”.
Angered at the alleged molestation of a Class 3 student, a large number of parents gathered on the school premises and staged a protest against the administration’s lackadaisical approach in dealing with the matter. They also demanded that the school principal be sacked.
The mother of the eight-year-old girl was also present at the meeting and demanded justice for her daughter.
“I am thankful to all the parents for supporting my cause. None of us could have imagined that such an incident would take place at the school,” the victim’s mother said.
Ankit Goyal, a member of the school board, met the parents and heard their concerns regarding the molestation case, problems with the current principal and lack of communication between the school authorities and parents.
“The management has suspended the services of the principal. She will remain suspended till the next board meeting. She should have informed the police about the incident on the very first day. She left for Australia without convincing the child’s parents. It was a mistake on her part,” said Goyal.
Sandeep Kumar, whose son studies at the school, said, “The principal left for Australia when parents contacted her. She asked us to take an appointment. We sought her immediate sacking.”
“Goyal has assured to take action by May 29. If not, we will again resort to protest,” said Raja Moudgil, father of another student.
Meanwhile, nearly 200 parents have created a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/groups/suncityparents) to discuss problems related to the school.
The parents also claimed though 200 CCTVs have been installed in the school, there is nobody to monitor them. A summer camp planned in the school has also been cancelled.
