To tighten the noose on erring auto-rickshaw and shared auto drivers who illegally park their vehicles on the service lanes of the Gurgaon Expressway, the traffic police will soon impose a fine of Rs. 1,000 on them.
The illegal parking of vehicles disrupts traffic flow on these already congested lanes.
To check the practice, the police will start a special drive from Iffco Chowk and later extend the same to other locations on the expressway service lane.
The e-way service lane is usually crowded as roads are occupied by private vehicles as well as taxis and auto-rickshaws.
“The auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers create chaos in the service lane which also causes jams at the main carriageway of the expressway,” said Bharti Arora, DCP (traffic).
We are going to display new signboards which will instruct drivers not to park their vehicles on the service lane, and to avoid driving on the wrong side.
“These signboards will be ready in a few days. After the delivery of these signboards, we will display them at Iffco Chowk and initiate the drive from there,” added DCP Arora.
“Later, the drive will be extended to Signature Tower, Rajeev Chowk and Shankar Chowk and other busy chowks situated at the service lane,” she added.
The police have received several complaints against auto drivers for illegal parking and wrong side driving in the service lanes. As these autos occupy a large area of the lane, other modes of public transport such as city buses halt in the middle of the road to pick and drop passengers.
“The auto drivers will be instructed to follow traffic rules. We won’t tolerate any traffic violation,” said DCP Arora.
