Swift action by a security guard foiled a robbery attempt when five armed miscreants barged into the Muthoot Finance branch office in Gurgaon, Sector 10 on Saturday.
The robbers were forced to flee after the security guard snatched their country-made pistol and knife.
The police recovered a knife, country-made pistol, bag and seized a Tata Safari car from the spot. An eyewitness said the robbers arrived in a Tata Safari and entered the office posing as customers.
“Two robbers went inside and held the branch manager and an employee hostage at gunpoint. Their three accomplices followed them and overpowered the office guard Rajveer Singh. Somehow, Rajveer managed to shout for help and Vijender Singh, who was on the building’s third floor along with other security guards, came to his rescue,” said a Muthoot Finance employee, requesting anonymity.
“Vijender snatched the knife and pistol from the robbers and challenged them. In the meantime, other guards and people assembled on the spot. Sensing trouble, the robbers fled leaving their car behind,” he added.
The employee, manager and the security guard suffered minor injuries in the incident. Rajveer fired four rounds in the air. “Vijender saved my life. His swift reaction and bravery prevented the situation from going out of control,” said Rajveer.
Police are examining the CCTV footage. “The accused will be arrested soon,” said Surender Pal, DCP (west).
