Police arrested a Chandigarh-based arms dealer late on Saturday for importing a gun illegally using the documents of a Gurgaon-based shooter.

The accused was arrested after 16-year-old Suraj Rao, a resident of Gurgaon’s Civil Lines, a sports shooter and son of a judicial officer, filed a complaint on Friday, a police spokesperson said on Sunday.

Police identified the accused as one Hardeep Bedi, who allegedly misused the documents of Rao to purchase an imported firearm from a Slovenian company.

The Sector 17 crime branch unit that was investigating the case arrested Bedi.

Suraj said in his complaint he had submitted documents to get a pistol imported from a Slovenia firm. He alleged that his documents were misused by Bedi, who is a clearing agent for the Slovenia-based arms firm to get a gun.

The accused ordered a gun in the name of the victim without his knowledge, said the police. Soon after the victim came to know about the second gun, he informed the police.

A case was registered in Civil Lines under sections 467 for forgery of valuable security, 420 for cheating, 468 for forgery for purpose of cheating and 471 for used as genuine as fraud of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
