The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is all set to take action against mobile towers operating in the city without having requisite permission from competent authorities. “Such mobile towers stand illegal as of now and deserve strict action immediately,” said a senior MCG official.

The MCG has prepared a list of such mobile towers operating in the municipal limits and the private builders’ areas and it is likely to start sending show cause notices to the operators from next week.

“We have identified as many as 463 mobile towers operating without obtaining requisite permission from the MCG, which is now the sole permission granting authority,” said Anju Chaudhary, the joint commissioner (JC-headquarters), MCG.

“We have done our work and now we are in a position to slap show cause notices of seven days on the operators asking them to remove the illegal towers on their own. Else, the MCG enforcement wing will remove them,” added Chaudhary.

Earlier, these mobile tower operators had reportedly approached the MCG for permission but the civic body had rejected their applications on various grounds. Most of these towers are operating from rooftops of residential premises, which are close to schools and near populated and fully residential buildings and they do not display their radiation levels either. The residents living close to these towers have long been complaining of being subjected to serious health risks, amounting to sleeplessness, hearing problems, effects on pregnancy and others.

“We have been protesting against the mobile towers installed in our colony. Some pregnant women have left the place due to its adverse impact on their to-be-born babies,” said Adhiraj Chaudhary, a resident of Devender Vihar in Sector 56.
