Conman dupes shop manager, flees with gold worth Rs. 20 lakh

A fraud case was registered against a conman on Monday who duped a jewellery showroom owner of 15 gold bracelets worth Rs. 20 lakh.

Ashish Goyal, owner of Goyal Jewellers Overseas Pvt Ltd, Gold Souk, complained to the Sushant Lok police that the accused posing himself as Kunal Kapoor, general manager of Ansal Group of Companies, came to the store on February 4.

The accused wanted to order 74 kg silver coins and 70 gold bracelets, the police said.

Police officials said Kapoor spent some time in the showroom and asked store manager RK Goenka that he wanted to speak to the shop owner claiming that he was an old classmate of his.

The manager made the accused talk to the store owner over the phone.

The accused introduced himself as KK to Goyal.After this, the store manager showed samples of gold jewellery to the accused, who then finalised a deal.

“When the manager asked for an advance payment, accused Kapoor told him to send a salesman along with him to his office. He also requested him to send 15 gold bracelets for his boss’s final approval,” said the store manager.

The salesman along with the accused reached Galleria Market commercial tower. Kapoor asked the salesman to wait near the lift and went to seek permission to enter the office.

He returned and told the salesman to hand him the gold bracelets so that he could get the approval from his boss.The salesman waited for hours but the accused did not turn up. When he inquired about the address, it was found to be fake.
