In collaboration with various BPOs in the Millennium City, the police have decided to set up a special working group to plug loopholes in safety and security measures for employees. The initiative comes after the Gurgaon police, in a first-of-its-kind move, roped in village sarpanches to tighten the noose on anti-social elements.

In a crucial meeting on Wednesday, executives of various BPO companies met Gurgaon police commissioner, Alok Mittal, and discussed issues related to ensuring safety of employees, transport facilities, and verification of cab drivers, security officials and housekeeping staff.

Representatives of Nasscom, IBM, American Express and HSBC, along with representatives of private security agencies, attended the meeting.

"A special working group will be set up comprising officials of BPOs, property owners, security audit teams and the Gurgaon police. The present security system in place has loopholes, which can only be resolved if there is no laxity in security-related issues," said Mittal.

"We will be hold a meeting with those present today (Wednesday) at least three times a month to keep a check on problems related to security arrangements," added the police commissioner.

Though CCTV cameras installed in BPO office premises are in order, Mittal said, those monitoring these cameras have not been performing their duties efficiently. The Gurgaon police would interact with the security staff of each office and provide them with training to monitor these cameras properly, he said.

"It is a initiative by the Gurgaon police to help fight crime in a collaborative way," said Nidhi Gupta, an employee of Nasscom.
