The city police on Sunday released a sketch of the accused who raped a 5-year-old girl and abandoned her near the Sikandarpur Metro station.

According to the police, the sketch is based on the description given by the victim’s cousin. He had accompanied her to a feast on Saturday afternoon near Bristol Chowk.

In addition, the police have also announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone with information about the accused.

“We have released a sketch of the accused on the basis of the cousin’s statement. We have also announced a cash reward for those who give the police any information about the accused,” said Alok Mittal, commissioner of police, Gurgaon.

Meanwhile, a special team of about 100 police personnel has been formed under the joint commissioner of police (JCP), Maheshwar Dayal. “We have started combing operations to nab the accused. On Sunday morning, we searched the Nathupur and Sikanderpur area from 12am to 5am,” Dayal said.

The 5-year-old girl has suffered serious injuries after the brutal rape. She was brought to the Gurgaon Civil Hospital around 6pm on Saturday evening. Medical examination at the hospital had confirmed rape. She was then referred to New Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital for plastic surgery.

Doctors at the Delhi hospital said her condition was serious but stable. “Her wounds were dressed yesterday. She needs corrective surgery. But the wounds have to heal first. For this, she has been put on strong antibiotics to control the infection,” said a senior official at the hospital.
