After his plan to involve residents of the city in managing traffic, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal, on Tuesday, sought the help of village heads in policing.

This is for the first time in the district that the Gurgaon police have sought locals’ help. Asking village heads to keep a watch on the activities of criminals, Mittal also interacted with residents to discuss their grievances. “The Millennium City has a mixed population and it is difficult for the police force to keep an eye on each area. We want locals’ help to tighten the noose around criminals,” said Mittal.

The commissioner said the sarpanches can contact him anytime on his mobile number — 09999981801. “If a station house officer (SHO) does not take action in any case, the matter would be escalated to  higher authorities. Names of informers will be kept secret depending on their wish,” said Mittal.

The sarpanches apprised the commissioner of anti-social elements at liquor vends where eve-teasing has become a nuisance.
