14-yr-old fled home, drove to Gujarat on scooter without licence, papersgurgaon Updated: Jul 13, 2013 02:07 IST
It was quite an adventure for 14-year-old Rahul as he rode his scooter from Gurgaon all the way up to Ahmedabad in Gujarat and that, too, without a driving licence or documents. But, it was a short-lived fantasy as a security guard in Ahmedabad reported him to the Gurgaon police.
A team from Palam Vihar police station left for Ahmedabad on Friday to bring Rahul back.
The security guard, Naresh Kumar, found him loitering in the area and when he questioned him, the boy started crying and narrated his misadventure. Kumar then contacted the Gurgaon police and gave his contact details and also informed the boy’s family on Thursday. Kumar called the child helpline number and alerted them, too.
Meanwhile, Rahul has been sent to a child welfare home and the warden has asked his parents to bring valid documents to claim their ward, said the police.
“The boy was in Sector 23 till July 9 but after he read the missing news, he fled to Ahmedabad on his scooter. He had thought that he would find a job there and would not return home but luckily he was spotted by a guard,” said assistant sub-inspector Devi Charan.
On July 9, Palam Vihar police had filed a case of kidnapping after Rahul went missing.
Rahul, a student of Chiranjeev Bharti School, Palam Vihar, left his house on July 5 after stealing some cash and the ATM card of his father.
The boy had shopped for R8,000 through his father’s debit card prior to leaving the house which led the police to believe that he might have run away. A probe further revealed that the boy had planned to leave the house in advance and had already packed his clothes.
His father, Mahinder Singh, who works as a bus driver in the same school, said, “Rahul fell in bad company and often lied to us. He wasn’t even performing well in school. However, I will not scold him but would take him to a counsellor.”
The boy, while leaving his house, had left his mobile phone behind in order to escape the technical surveillance which could have traced him.
