The country’s top technocrats and executives from over 50 IT and consultancy companies converged on the Millennium City — home to nearly 250 Fortune-500 companies — on Saturday for an award function organised by the Haryana Information Technology and Telecom-Enabled Industries Confederation (Hitec).

Member of Parliament from Gurgaon Rao Inderjit Singh, who is also the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on IT, and former chief election commissioner of India SY Quraishi gave away awards to more than 50 chief technology officers, chief information officers and chief executive officers in ten categories — IT, ITes/BPOs, telecom operators, telecom vendors, real estate, hospitals, consultancy, automobile, educational universities and media.

“It is because of you people that Gurgaon today is on the world map,” Singh said and also praised the honchos for contributing to the growth of the city.

“Gurgaon’s growth story will get a great fillip with such levels of technological intervention as initiated by Hitec. It took strenuous effort to get go-aheads for Cyber City which has now emerged as Gurgaon’s IT/corporate hub where the world’s most prestigious companies have set up offices,” said Quraishi.

Union telecom minister Kapil Sibal, who could not make it to the event, sent a message saying, “IT and telecom are quintessential factors for the country’s growth. I extend my best wishes to Hitec for doing such a great job.”
