The sensational killing of a Delhi Police special cell officer and his live-in partner in the latter’s Gurgaon flat became murkier on Sunday with the post-mortem belying police claims over the sequence of events.
Contrary to police claims that Sharma killed Inspector Badrish Dutt first and then shot herself in the chin, the post-mortem report suggests that the bullet entry wound on Sharma’s body was on her head rather than the chin.
Also, till Saturday, the police had been saying that the bullet with which Sharma killed herself was found lodged in the ceiling. But with the autopsy report out, it has been reported that in all three bullets were fired.
The autopsy, conducted by doctors in the presence of experts from Madhuban at Gurgaon civil hospital, also raised questions over who killed whom first. If Dutt had killed Sharma first then how could his service revolver be found in Sharma’s lap? And if Sharma killed Dutt first, then how could she have shot herself in the manner suggested by the autopsy report?
Moreover, the third bullet - the presence of which was confirmed by Gurgaon joint police commissioner Maheshwar Dayal - has also thickened the plot.
Dr Deepak Mathur, part of the three-member autopsy team, confirmed that both the victims had sustained a bullet injury each in their heads. He said both victims had been shot at point blank range and the wounds matched the .9mm bore weapon of offence.
Also, the same food was found in the stomach of both victims, suggesting they had dinner together. But there were no traces of alcohol. According to autopsy report, the shooting occurred around 1 am. Apart from bullet wounds, there were no external injury marks on the bodies.
However, things are expected to become clear after the ballistic team of experts from Madhuban would submit its report.
“Dutt’s body was claimed by his maternal uncle and younger brother, who took the body to Kotdwar. Sharma’s body was claimed by her brother and younger sister,” Dayal said. Police sources revealed that Sharma had been pressuring the Delhi cop into providing her sensitive information, which she had then misused. Also, it was learnt that all the arrangements for getting Shrma out of Tihar, including arranging a lawyer, were done by Dutt.
Dutt’s last rites were conducted in his native Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, on Sunday evening at the cremation ghat near the bridge with state honours. Officials of Delhi police were also present on the occasion.
SSI Kotdwar police station Kunwar Singh Bisht said none of Dutt’s relatives live in Kotdwar now. His brother was said to be on the way to Kotdwar from Baroda.
The people of Kotdwar, who are in a shock over this incident have demanded CBI inquiry into the whole incident.
