The sad state of the fire department has forced private sector realtor DLF group to set up its own fire stations in the city.

It had launched its first fire station in June in Cyber City, followed by a second one in DLF Phase 5 in September.

Equipped with the latest technology from Finland, the stations house hydraulic platforms with chassis of Mercedes Benz and two fire tenders of 90 metre height.

The stations house more than 30 fire safety experts and have a water capacity of 18 kilolitre per vehicle. They have a pump discharge of 6,000 litre per minute.

During the inauguration of the fire station at DLF Phase 5, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) commissioner Sudhir Rajpal said, "We are happy to see that the private sector is sharing the burden of the public sector and is taking such initiatives. It is very important for the corporate citizens to be a part of the city's building process."

Commenting on the Rs. 5000 penalty slapped on violators, he said, "I have appealed to the court for a higher punishment. They cannot be let free so easily. We should make sure that such incidents don't occur at all," he said.
