The police arrested a 24-year-old man on Friday for allegedly raping a nurse for two years on the promise of marrying her.

Mohit Kumar, who lives in Delhi’s RK Puram, works as a delivery boy at a multinational burger restaurant on MG Road. The woman, his relative, is a nurse at a private hospital and lives in a rented accommodation in Gurgaon.

Kumar often visited the 22-year-old woman. He proposed to her for marriage, but after two years he refused to marry her. He has not been reachable since March, the police said.

The woman lodged a complaint with the Delhi police on Thursday night, accusing him of luring her into a physical relationship on the promise of marriage.

The Delhi police booked Kumar under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and transferred the case to the women police station in Gurgaon.

“We arrested Kumar from his residence in Delhi on Friday night. He abandoned the woman after raping her on false promises,” ACP (Sadar) Dharna Yadav said.
