With the mercury rising again, Gurgaon residents had a tough weekend because of frequent, unscheduled and long power outages day and night. Outages ranging from five to 10 hours were reported from various areas.

Residents complained that frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations even rendered inverters useless. High temperature and humidity caused unease, forcing people to rush to malls for some respite..

“I preferred to spend three hours at a mall on MG Road as there was no regular power supply in our sector. Heat and humidity caused extreme perspiration and headache,” Vikas Yadav of Sector 14, said.

The power discom officials said that there were power outages in some areas because of breakdown.

Frequent power outages were reported from DLF phases 1, 2 3, Sushant Lok, Palam Vihar, Su City, sectors 9, 10, 14, 15, 56, and 57

“Old people and children are suffering more. Children are home on summer vacation and they are unable to bear the heat. We are praying for some rain,” Swati Malik of Sushant Lok, said.

Residents of Takshila Heights in Sector 37 C said that they are not getting power supply from the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) on a regular basis.

Vikas Bansal of Sector 37 C said there is no regular power supply in the locality from May 25 midnight. He said when the residents spoke to a discom official, he asked them to get in touch with the contractor as he manages the lines.

“From these long power outages, it seems we are not residing in Gurgaon but in some remote area,” Bansal said.

A discom official said there is regular supply from the discom and it seemed to be an issue of the internal maintenance of the society.

Superintending engineer (operations) of DHBVN ,Gurgaon, Sanjeev Chopra said there are issues of breakdown in some areas but discom personnel are rectifying them.
