The deputy excise and taxation commissioner (DETC) Sales Tax , Kuldeep Singh Malik took over the additional charge of excise department on Friday. He announced a massive drive against the violators of pub/bars and liquor vends flouting rules and regulation.

In a move that has spread shock-waves in the millennium city, three inspectors were recently suspended and four other officers including the deputy excise & taxation commissioner DETC Anil Kadyan were transferred. It had happened following reports of officials having failed to check bootleggers.

Inspector Surinder Singh and inspector Bhishembar Yadav have joined the excise department; Gurgaon and inspector Raghubeer and inspector Ajeet are likely to join on Monday in place of those shunted out.

With five new inspectors the department would have a team of eight inspectors including inspector Deepika, inspector Jai Krishan and inspector Kunal Yadav.

The excise department was already short of staff and three suspensions led to loss of vigilant tab on the pub/bars. Now the pub/bars are found exceeding the time deadline of midnight.

DETC called a meeting of his team and directed them to visit their areas and check the illegal liquor vends if operational. He also directed the team to ensure regular drive in pub/bars and check the stock of the liquor, deadline timings and underage criteria of not serving liquor.

Subhash Kaushik, Hansraj and Rakesh Sharma were suspended after illegal liquor vends were found in their rural areas in Sohna region. A special team was formed and conducted raids in Sohna and Bhondsi area and found around six vends functioning without licenses

First day after taking charge Malik ensured his team raided the suspected liquor vends and have seized almost five cases of illegal liquor from an liquor vend in village Shikohpur in Sector 78.

KS Malik, DETC said, “We will ensure the pub/bars are not operational beyond the deadline. If anyone found strict action would be taken against the owner and their license might get canceled. The team would monitor the footage of the CCTV camera frequently and teams would conduct regular raids in the district”.
