A year after it was decided to construct an underpass at the Signature Tower crossing, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) recently awarded the contract for the preparation of the feasibility report on the project.
A senior MCG official told HT that the Ahmedabad-based Sai Consulting Engineers Private Limited will submit the report in a few months, based on which a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared.
The underpass at Signature Tower crossing was suggested by an expert panel in March 2012, following which the MCG had called a meeting in this regard with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and Gurgaon traffic police.
Signature Tower crossing is a major bottleneck on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway followed by Maharana Pratap Chowk and Atul Kataria chowk on Mehrauli Road and Old Delhi road, respectively.
On the two stretches, the MCG has plans to build flyovers.
The panel had suggested signal-free traffic to connect east and west Gurgaon. This included construction of the flyovers at the Maharana Pratap chowk and Atul Kataria chowk and an underpass at Signature Tower crossing.
