The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education ( ICSE) Board exams for classes X and XII began on Monday. With this, the examination season for the year 2011-12 has finally begun.
Both classes sat for the English paper on Monday. Most students had mixed feelings atb the time of the exam — that of anxiety and excitement. Frayed nerves got soothed as most reported that the paper was not that tough. Students who had entered the examination hall with anxiety writ large on their faces came out a happy and relieved lot.
Sudha Sahay, Principal of the Shri Ram School, Aravalli, said, “Students were completely at ease. As expected, all our students attempted the paper well and we are sure they will come out with flying colours.”
In the morning, many students could be seen busy in last-minute preparations. At some schools, teachers were seen preparing students in small groups so that their problems could be solved and each students got personalised attention as well.
Talking about it, Sonia Sharma, a class X student of Lord Jesus Public School, said, “Exams always give me goosebumps. It is the time when your hard work of the entire year is judged. And we are lucky that the paper went absolutely fine. No question was out of syllabus. It was actually fun attempting the paper.”
On Monday, ICSE students sat for English Paper I which deals with the grammar aspect of the language. For class X, the paper was for 80 marks. The remaining 20 marks depend upon internal assessment.
However, for class XII students, the paper was of 100 marks.
Students were given three hours for writing the paper and 15 minutes for reading. The second English paper is scheduled for Wednesday.
