The Gurgaon police crime branch arrested five miscreants after an encounter in the Sector 47 area on Friday night. The five, arrested on a tip-off, were planning to commit a robbery in NCR, police said.

The five have been identified as Mahesh of Bulandshahr in UP, Amit of Delhi's Vasant Kunj, Amol Kumar of Dausa in Rajasthan, Aniket of Vaishali in Bihar and Surya Narayana of Madhubani in Bihar. Three unlicenced weapons, knives, two fake numberplates of one car and a Ford Fiesta car have been recovered from them.

According to the police, the accused opened fire when they saw the police team, to which the policemen retaliated. But seeing enough police presence, they tried to flee, police said. They were reportedly caught after a brief chase.

“They were produced before a court and have been sent to judicial custody,” said a police official. A case has been registered against them at Sadar police station.

In another incident, eight men were arrested for allegedly misbehaving with visitors outside Sahara Mall late on Friday night. They were produced before the local court on Saturday and have been granted bail. Police said the men were drunk.
