The city police recovered an SUV of a travel agency on Wednesday, hours after the vehicle was stolen by its driver.

The cops traced the Mahindra Zylo car in Kanpur with the help of GPS (Global Positioning System) installed in it. The accused, Suresh Kumar, was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

According to the police, Rajesh Diwedi, manager of a travel agency in Palam Vihar, informed the police control room on Tuesday night that a driver has fled with the company’s car.

DCP (west) Surinder Pal said, “We had formed two teams immediately after we received the complaint. The teams followed the vehicle with the help of GPS and nabbed the accused from his native village in Kanpur.”

Kumar, 27, a native of Kanpur, had been working with the travel agency for the past one year. On Tuesday evening, Kumar had dropped a client and switched off his mobile. The manager, then, informed the police.

“Within no time, the company manager along with the police team followed the car through the GPS system. The driver met his friends at a village near Kanpur. But he was caught by the Kanpur police,” a senior police officer said.
