In its attempt to keep the city roads clean while not disturbing traffic movement, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has started the work of lifting garbage and sweeping roads during late night hours. The step has been taken mostly in areas that witness heavy traffic flow.
The civic body has deployed men to sweep roads between 10:30pm to midnight, when the flow of traffic is slow. This ensures that the work is done faster without obstructing traffic.
The corporation has provided the workers with all necessary utilities like trucks and JCB machines for lifting garbage.
At present, the initiative has been implemented in 10 heavily congested locations like Jain Mandir Jacumpura, Sheetla Hospital New Railway Road and Sabji Mandi Gurudwara Road.
“MCG is taking several initiatives to see that the city, which is rapidly developing, remains clean. The initiative to sweep roads at night comes in the light of heavy traffic movement on the selected roads. The men can now easily and quickly clean the roads and lift garbage without obstructing the traffic,” says Ambika Prasad Sharma, chief sanitary inspector, MCG.
The activity that started in May has picked up pace and people get clean roads in the morning itself.
“Earlier there were times when MCG tractors used to be parked on road to pick garbage, disrupting the traffic movement. But now, we do not see that happening and the roads are much cleaner,” said 19-year-old Anshika, a resident of the city.
