An officer probing the alleged rape and blackmail of an IAS aspirant was suspended for “gross negligence of investigation of case.” The case was registered in March.
The suspension order, dated July 10, stated that according to the report by ACP (headquarters), the sub-inspector of the women’s police station in Sector 51, where the rape case was reported, showed negligence while investigating the case.
The order also said that the IO “did not provide the information under the RTI Act to the complainant of the case.”
Dharna Yadav, ACP (headquarters), confirmed the suspension, but said that it was ‘routine’.
“Gurgaon police has a self-corrective system and there are many reasons for the suspension. Many IOs are suspended for lapses and many are reinstated after inquiry,” she said.
She, however, refused to comment on this particular case and said details would emerge “on the outcome of the department inquiry.”
The order also stated that a regular department inquiry against the officer will be initiated. The inquiry will be led by ACP, Manesar, Dharamvir Singh. Singh said he has not received the order yet as he was out of station for the last three days.
The matter came to the fore in March when the victim filed an FIR at the women’s police station alleging that she was raped in December by a man claiming to be son of an IAS officer. She had also alleged that she was blackmailed for months, as the accused had filmed the act.
Since March, the complainant and her father had filed two more FIRs — one in Gurgaon and one in Jaipur — alleging that the accused and others related to him were threatening them.
