The lives of Venus and Rick Green turned upside down last Sunday after their six-month-old dog, Rexy, disappeared from Sector 49. Finally, after two long days of searching, assisted by pet lovers in the city and on socill media, the Australian couple got their dog back.

In order to show their gratitude to the people who supported them and helped find Rexy, the Australian couple invited people for a dinner party in Sector 66 on Sunday night.

It was a party where guests chatted about animal welfare and the measures they can take up to provide relief to animals living on the streets. Rexy too was eventually found on the streets.

“People should care about animals on the streets and give them food, shelter and love. We want people to know how Rexy was rescued and others should also follow,” Venus said. This is the first time the couple has invited people for a party as they wanted to celebrate the homecoming of their beloved dog.

“It was a simple dinner party. We just wanted to thank people. We talked about the condition of dogs on the streets and how they are being treated,” she added.

The couple had offered a reward of Rs2 lakh for finding Rexy and had also put out messages on social media regarding the same.

Rexy was finally found after South City 2 residents Akriti Nandy and Parul Sihna spotted the dog in a parking at their society and informed the owners. The girls themselves take care of street dogs in their own way.

Akriti and Parul, also present at Sunday’s event, said it was the first party they have attended for the homecoming of a dog. “The party was great as I met two pet owners as well. However, no pets are allowed in the club so no one brought their dogs,” said Nandy.

When inquired about Rexy, its owners reported that it is fine. “It is happy now and looks healthier since it returned home,” said Venus.
