The city’s dancing sensation, Ryan Martyr (25), has been making the city proud in one of the country’s leading dance reality TV shows “So You Think You Can Dance”. He is now one of the top eight contestants on the show.

Ryan, an alumni of Our Lady of Fatima School and DAV Public School, has been into dancing as long as he can remember. He put his dancing skills to use at an early age and participated and won several dance competitions at the school and local level.

“My parents and family have been very supportive of my dancing. I wouldn’t have reached where I am without them,” said Ryan, a resident of Apna Enclave, a gated community on Railway Road near Sector 4/5.

Ryan joined the dance team in his college from where he honed his skills to a new level and started pursuing dancing professionally.

He was part of many professional dance groups, including Ashley Lobo’s troupe and a troupe called Dance N Buzz.

“My inspiration has been Travis Wall , and I really look up to Lucky Ali and Justin Timberlake,” he said.

Ryan has also performed in London twice, where he was also selected for Britain’s Got Talent, but he had to opt out as he was on a tourist visa.

Ryan also took up teaching dance in schools and colleges and has choreographed many dance performances for college dance groups.

He began his journey in So You Think You Can Dance in March 2016, and there has been no looking back since, he said. His performances have been applauded by celebrities and experts such as Madhuri Dixit, Terence Lewis and Akshay Kumar.

“I love dancing, and will never give it up, but I want to travel and settle in the hills. I am also writing a book, and would love to write more,” he said, when asked about his future plans.

“Dreams do come true, just believe in yourself and dream big,” said Ryan.
