The police on Thursday arrested the owner of the day care centre where a three-year-old’s thumb was severed in an accident .
The owner, Archana Benjiwal, was booked for negligence after the girl’s mother, Shivani Sharma —a private firm employee — registered a case against Benjiwal at the Sector 56 police station on Monday. A local court, however, has granted bail to Benjiwal.
“We had summoned her to the police station. She came with her husband on Thursday. We questioned her and arrested her for negligence. She was later released on bail by a local court,” Amit Kumar, station house officer, of Sector 56 police station, said.
Three-year-old Myra was at the Cherub Angels day care centre in Sushant Lok 3, Sector 57, when she lost the thumb of her right hand. The severed thumb was first treated by doctors at Artemis hospital and then a reconstructive surgery was carried out at Medanta, the Medicity, where Myra is now admitted.
Shivani recounted the incident, which happened on April 28, in detail in a Facebook post that has already been shared by over 10,000 users. Shivani’s husband was in London at the time of the accident.
On Monday, after her husband returned, Shivani registered a complaint against the authorities of the day care centre, alleging wilful negligence. The police lodged an FIR against Benjiwal under sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 338 (voluntary causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
